Post by j***@invalid.invalidAside from the Veronica search and NOAA weather tools on floodgap.com
I find regular use for Gopherpedia (gopher://gopherpedia.com/7/lookup)
and Gopherddit (gopher://gopherddit.com/).
Would love to learn of other Gopher-based services.
There's a whole lot here (some seem broken though):
gopher://magical.fish
I had some fun with the Javascript (and registration) free gateway
to one of these new chatbot things here, but it seems to be broken
now:
gopher://gopher.flatline.ltd
The science paper search seems to hang now too, oh well. At least
Gopherpedia seems to have lasted the test of time because I use
that too.
No wait, it all depends on your client. It fails with the UMN
Gopher client, but the OpenAI interface works in Gopherus (not the
research paper search though):
"Query: what services are available on the Gopher protocol?
Response:
The Gopher protocol was a distributed document search and retrieval system that
was popular in the early days of the internet. It allowed users
to access a variety of services, including:
- Text-based search and retrieval of documents
- File transfer
- Remote login
- Newsgroups
- Gopher menus
- Gopher maps
- Gopher tunnels
- Gopher search engines
- Gopher-based chat rooms
- Gopher-based games
- Gopher
Query: what new Gopher services are available today?
Response:
Some of the new Gopher services available today include:
- Gopher-based search engines
- Gopher-based file sharing
- Gopher-based chat rooms
- Gopher-based forums
- Gopher-based newsgroups
- Gopher-based web hosting
- Gopher-based email services
- Gopher-based blogging platforms
- Gopher-based social networks
- Gopher-based online stores
"
So your typical load of unhelpful nonsense from that then.
Interesting that it insists twice that newsgroups are on Gopher.
